How to Make a Bootable Ubuntu OS CD/DVD - Kill It
Installing a Linux distribution (aka distro) on a machine can generally be done with these four easy steps.
Since the last method requires a host Operating system (i.e. on another OS), the first three methods requires an bootable CD/DVD or a Flash Drive (I'll concentrate only on the former in this post).
- Fresh installation
- Dual boot
- Live CD/DVD booting
- Virtual Installation
Since the last method requires a host Operating system (i.e. on another OS), the first three methods requires an bootable CD/DVD or a Flash Drive (I'll concentrate only on the former in this post).
Installation via DVD mainly involves downloading the Ubuntu ISO image, burning it to a DVD and booting from it. I will expatiate in these steps below :
1
Fetch the Ubuntu ISO image from http://ubuntu.com/download/desktop.2
We need a software to burn the files in the ISO image into a DVD. HP Windows 8s PCs comes with a free version of CyberLink Power2Go (or at least mine did) and that is what I am using in this post. You don't have this software? Don't worry there are other programmes that can do this: ISO Recorder (Win), Disk Utility (MAC). You can also employ Google search for more apps. The processes involved is basically the same.3
Launch Power2Go and insert an empty DVD into the optical disk.4
From under Copy Disc, select Burn Disc Image.4
Under From, browse to the location of the ISO image, make sure you check "Verify recorded data" and click the Burn button. After the actual burning, it'll verify the disk.
