[SERIOUS] Does the current root method still have annoyances?

I've been on and off the root bus multiple times on this device because while it's nice to have root, there were issues with MMS, issues with heat problems, issues with the device stuttering and feeling laggy and having to apply a different CPU profile. Of course with all of those problems included lesser battery life at times. The list went on.

That being said, is root any better nowadays? Are there any stable ROMs that don't have ANY of these issues? I can honestly live without root if I have to sacrifice any of the above.
