su.d script question

I have a script in su.d that sets kernel parameters on boot. If I unroot, are those scripts still run on boot, or is that folder reliant on su access?

Basically, I want to continue adjusting the kernel parameters on boot, but remove root from my phone after I've setup the scripts in order to use Android pay, etc.
