Will Android 6 ROOT work?

Hello all.I have a question about my Kindle Fire HD 7" 2012 Model.Recently,I installed a stock ROM(unofficial) and now its running Android Marshmallow; however,I want root access.In settings,it tells me I have root access and I have the developer options tab,however whenever I try to use an app that needs root I'm told I really dont have root.So what I want to know is,even though my original device is a Kindle, will an android 6 root work on it or will it brick my device?If so,where can I find an android 6 root that doesnt need a computer?If not,how can I root my device?
