The iOS 11 developer beta became officially available a few weeks back. The developer beta version of iOS 11 is essentially for Apple developers. Thankfully, a regular iOS user can get same developer OS version on their iPad and iPhone devices.
However, it’s strictly advisable that you get the developer version of iOS on a phone you wouldn’t consider as a main phone.
The iOS developer beta 2 was released a few days back. Hopefully, the first public beta should be available in a few days from now.
Thankfully, the new Apple OS for iPhones and iPads supports the 3 year old iPhone 6. I installed the developer beta version on the iPhone 6 and just a few days back, I updated to the developer beta 2.

The developer beta 2 version of iOS 11 brings about quite a handful of bug fixes and improvements. All these, I’d talking about in a bit.

Installing and Using iOS 11 developer beta On iPhone

Deciding on installing iOS 11 developer beta on the iPhone 6 wasn’t an easy one. But for the love of Tech, experimentation (and you), I had to take the risk.
The OS brought about quite a handful of features. Some of the easily notable ones were;

• The famous cycles which signifies network strength being changed to bars.
• Fingerprint unlocks faster.
• A redesigned control panel.
• A redesigned App Store
• Ability to control the velocity of the torch from the control panel.
• Emergency SOS being introduced.
• A redesigned notification tray.
• Being able to easily take and edit screenshots.
• A much sleek looking dial pad.
• A much sleek looking calculator.
• File manager now included
• iPhone Storage menu.
• Shut Down option also introduced.

Now, let’s talk more on some of these newly introduced features. Shall we?

Network Strength icon

One of the quickest way to tell an iPhone from a screenshot is the cycle network bars. That’s been famous with Apple devices since inception (I think).
However, with iOS 11, that has been changed to bars. Traditional networks bars, I might add.

Personally, it was pretty very easy to notice this. I am wondering why Apple decided to change that though.

Fingerprint Unlocks Faster

I kinda think the phone now unlocks faster with iOS 11. However, this could be as a result of the unlock transition being removed or made super faster that you almost wouldn’t notice the transition.

A Redesigned Control Panel

This is perhaps, one of the highlights of the new OS. Swapping the screen from the bottom upwards, you’d find the new redesigned control panel.
The control panel looks more beautiful. More so, you can customize the features present on the control panel via the control panel settings under general.

By default, the control panel houses the function to Turn Airplane mode on / off. There in, you can also turn on/off Wi-Fi and cellular data. The Bluetooth switch icon is also present there. There is also the quick music navigator, screen rotation lock, back-light, Do-Not-Disturb and volume controls.
Others would be the torch feature, clock, calculator, Screen mirroring and camera.
Long pressing on most of the feature present there, you can further control them. For example, long pressing on the torch, you can control the level of light the torch transmits. Same applies to the back-light and volume controls.

You can easily activate more features on most of the functionalities under the control panel by simply long pressing on them. Kinda feels like 3D touch.

Emergency SOS

Apple cares about you. They understand no one is above being endangered. And for that reason, they’ve introduced emergency SOS features. When activated, a number preset by the user is automatically dialed when emergency is needed. The location will also be sent in other to facilitate being reached on time.

To activate this, the user needs to go to Settings > Emergency SOS.

A redesigned Notification tray

Personally, Apple made things a little more complicated with this. Somehow, I prefer the former to the latter.

The new notification tray utilizes your lock screen wallpaper rather than a blurred background. That’s not even the ish. My problem with the new notification tray is being unable to remove specific notifications.
By this, I mean, I can’t seem to clear / remove a particular notification or set of notifications without having to clear all notifications for a particular day.
Sure, you can now easily reply messages and literally every form of notification that kinda requires a reply via the notification tray.

However, being able to clear some specific notifications instead of all at once like old times would have been really nice.

Easily take and edit screenshots

This is particularly my favorite. The method of taking screenshots on iOS hasn’t changed. What’s new however, is the ability to quickly edit screenshots right from the same screen before saving them.
Remember the post where I shared some iPhone tricks? I used the iPhone new feature in editing most parts of the screenshots.
With the new edit screen shot feature on iOS 11, you can add arrows, lines, magnifier, texts, signatures and more to screenshots before eventually choosing to save them.

You can also take multiple screenshots at a time and seamlessly edit them together before saving. Really handy for me.

File Manager

This is the first time a file manager will be introduced on iPhone. I haven’t been explored this part, hence, there’s not much I can say right now regarding that.

iPhone Storage Menu

On the iPhone Storage menu, users can better see how much size their device has consumed.

More so, there are some recommended optimization tips being displayed under the iPhone Storage menu.

Shut Down Option Also Introduced

I am not so sure if this option will be making it to the public beta or final version, but it’s nice to have it on the developer version of iOS developer beta.

Feeling too lazy to press and hold the power button, you can simply turn off the device by the tap on a button.
The shut down option is found among the options in General under settings.

Few Issues Encountered With iOS 11 Developer Beta

Now to the not so good part of installing iOS beta on iPhone 6, some of the few issues I had were;

Siri not working

Siri wasn’t exactly working at the time I had the first version of beta running on the phone. Pressing and holding the home button, Siri would launch but wouldn’t do anything.

The first version of iOS 11 Beta Lags

Although it worked okay on the device, I noticed the OS lagged a bit.
Seamlessly switching between apps wouldn’t work at some point. You’d possibly have to launch the app each time instead of simply double tapping the home button and switching to another open app.

SMS Messages Were Not Delivering

This was my major concern. I can’t explain how the OS affected the SMS functionality but whenever I sent a text message, it will be declared as sent, I will even be debited but it won’t get to the recipient.
I sent a couple of messages to different contacts on different networks. They often complained they didn’t get the message. In a bid to confirming this, I sent a message to another number of mine and although it stated sent on the phone, I never received any message.

The iOS 11 Developer Beta 2 Is a Life Saver, sort of.

Upon upgrading the iPhone 6 operating system to iOS 11 developer beta 2, most of the issues I had with the earlier beta has been fixed.
Seamlessly switching between apps now works, I haven’t noticed any lagging. SMS messages being sent are now delivering.
Siri now also works. Not only Does Siri works, the AI can now also translate words into other languages. Additionally, you can type to siri. This is useful if you don’t have or can’t form that American or British accent.
Quite a handful of other adjustments have been made. The most noticeable addition with the beta 2, would be with the control panel.
The music navigator on the control panel now shows the last source of the media you played. If no file has been played, it’d display ‘IPHONE MUSIC‘ (as seen in the second screenshot above).
The GTBank Mobile banking app still isn’t going past the login window on the new OS. However, thanks to the recently launched GTWorld. That works flawlessly.
The battery on the new developer beta 2 is also affected. Although it wasn’t great in the first version, it seems worse in the second. Hopefully, it’d be fixed in subsequent updates.
So, that’s it guys. That’s all (or most notable) features of the iOS 11 developer beta 1 and beta 2 you should expect on your iPhone 6. That is if you haven’t upgraded yours yet.
The first public beta should hopefully be out in the next few days. Hopefully by then, I’d keep you informed with what’s new with iOS 11 on iPhone 6.

iPhone is yet to release date of 2017 iPhone,  the new iPhone 8 but Apple customers are already wanting to know what the phone will look like and what type of features it will have. Although Apple hasn’t released any official information yet, quite a few rumors involving potentially leaked photos have been circulating.

Here are some of the best potential leaks of the iPhone 8, along with some speculative comp photos from people who have been following the rumors and putting together illustrations of what the new iPhone might look like.

KK, a frequent Weibo leaker whose leaks about previous devices have sometimes proven accurate, shared the following photos in April showing possible designs for the new iPhone 8:

KK wrote that his confidence level for these leaks was 99 percent. He often shows other leaks as examples of leaks that he finds grossly inaccurate, but the above one got his seal of approval. This shows a display of 5.768 inches diagonally, which covers the entire device, along with curved glass on the edges. It shows components on either side of the earpiece on top, embedded in the display. This also shows the disappearance of a dedicated Home button and no TouchID sensor.MacRumors reported that Apple has possibly been having problems getting TouchID to work with the new display.

In November, MacRumors reportedthat Apple might be testing up to 10 prototypes for the new iPhone, so renderings and leaks could be from any of those prototypes.

It’s important to note that “dummy models” like the one above are often created by case makers, based on leaks and rumors about iPhone specs, to help them in the production process. MacRumors says that these are often accurate, but you never know from one dummy model to the next. Many current rumors indicate there may be no TouchID at all on the iPhone 8, which would make a dummy model like this one more accurate:One leak, released by /Leaks in mid April (with home button from the back), might be from one of Apple’s manufacturing partner’s computers, showing an iPhone in the Engineering Verification Testing stage. It also shows a large display, taking up most of the front of the phone, and a dual camera in the rear, with TouchID also being in the rear. It’s not known if this is authentic or not. If iPhone did have a rear-mounted TouchID, it might look something like this:

APPLE WATCH SERIES PRICE IS ON!

Exclusive to the Apple Watch Series 2 is a Silver Aluminum Case with Woven Nylon. This has been given a Php 20,990 price tag for the 38mm case and Php 22,490 for the 48mm case. Once again, there are different color variations that use the same material for the case and band, but our favorite among this bunch has to be the Space Gray Aluminum Case with Black Woven Nylon; a very safe combination. Got a good grip on your seat? Prices are about to get a bit higher.

This is the Apple Watch Series 2 with a Stainless Steel Case and the White Sports Band. This is priced at Php 30,990 for the 38mm case and at Php 33,990 for the 42mm case. There’s a bigger variety available for the bands that go with the Stainless Steel Case, such as: the Brown Classic Buckle, Milanese Loop, and Link Bracelet. The most expensive from the Stainless Steel variants is the Space Black colored case with Space Black Link Bracelet that comes in at Php 58,990 and Php 61,990 depending on the casing size.

The most expensive of all is the Apple Watch Series 2 that comes with a White Ceramic Case and Cloud Sports Band. The damage for this variant? Php 69,990 for the 38mm case and Php 72,990 for the 42mm case; definitely a serious amount of cash.

New iOS update improves Apple Music app

Apple is offering a new update for its iOS 9 mobile operating system aimed at all devices launched since the iPhone 4s, the iPad 2 and the fifth generation iPod touch. It includes numerous security fixes and some improvements to Apple Music.

This iOS 9.2 update provides some additions that will be appreciated by Apple Music subscribers, such as playlist management and making it easier to sync your iCloud Music Library. It also offers brand new features for Siri (support for Arabic), Mail(sending large attachments), iBooks (it now supports 3D Touch technology) and News(available only in the US, Britain and Australia). It promises improved stability for Safari and Podcasts and numerous security fixes.

The update can be downloaded either via iTunes (if your device is connected to your computer), or directly on your mobile phone via Settings > General > Software update.

Further, Apple is rolling out a new update for watchOS (2.1) which is focused on security fixes and support for more languages.

Finally, Apple also released a new update to Mac OS X El Capitan (10.11.2), delivering fixes for WiFi and Bluetooth, Handoff (which makes it easy to switch work between devices), AirDrop (used for transferring files between devices) and iCloud Photos.

Read Before Buying
This is NOT a ROM theme. And not a stand-alone app. Downloading it won't automatically make your android look like iOS7 and it's not a one tap apply. This pack contains widget skins, wallpapers, icons and other stuff. You have to follow instructions mentioned below to setup the theme. Everything that this theme pack does - is shown in the screenshots.

What this theme doesn't do -

• Change the look of your apps. i.e. when you launch any of your installed apps, they won't look like iOS. This theme ONLY changes the look of your homescreen and lockscreen.
• It won't change the look of your notification tray. And you can't '"swipe up from bottom" to get the control center. Both of these are part of your homescreens in this theme. One screen will look like notification center and another screen will look like control center.
• In the statusbar shown in the screenshots - the signal strength, wifi and bluetooth are static images. They are not actual indicators of their status. Only Time and Battery are realtime there.
• The power 'toggle' icons in the control center page are shortcuts and not actual toggles. Tapping on them will take you to their settings page directly and you can turn them on or off from there. Also, these icons' colors don't change depending on your status.
• Lockscreen's "slide to unlock" currently doesn't have a camera shortcut. I might add that in future, if I figure out how.

Attention Nexus users (or if your device has on-screen navigation bar) - you must be on a custom ROM like AOKP, Paranoid etc. Or must be rooted to use apps like Hide Softkeys, FullScreen. You'll need to hide the onscreen navigation bar.

• iOs/iPhone 7 theme OR ios7 HD theme iconpack.
• Nexus users - must be on a custom ROM like AOKP, Paranoid etc. Or must be rooted to use apps like Hide Softkeys, FullScreen. You'll need to hide that navigation bar.

If you bought the app from Amazon App Store; please forward me the purchase receipt that Amazon must have mailed you. I'll mail you other required wallpapers, icons, Widget Locker sliders etc.


Launcher settings -
Giving directions for Nova launcher. The launcher you use must also have similar options, even if in different path.

• Go to Nova Settings > Desktop. Set these values - Desktop Grid = 6x4. Width margin = None. Height Margin = None. Home Screens = 4.
• Go to Nova Settings > Dock. Set these values - Enable Dock, Dock Pages = 4, Dock Icons = 4, Width Margin = None, Dock Height = Large, Uncheck/disable these - Small Icons, Show scroll indicator, Show divider, Dock as overlay.
• Go to Nova Settings > Look and feel. Uncheck/disable "Show notification bar".

If you want the dock pages to be tied to homescreen pages, so that when you swipe homescreen page, their respective dock page stick to them, there's a little different launcher setting. Watch the instruction video, starting from time mark 35:32.

ROM settings -
If you are not using a Google Nexus device (Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 etc) and you don't have onscreen navigation keys (Home, back, recents etc.), you can skip this step.

Giving directions for AOKP ROM. The ROM you use must also have similar options, even if in different path.
Go to android settings > ROM Control > Navigation Bar and set these values -> "Hidden NavBar Enable" - check, Drag handle Opacity - 0%, Drag Handle width - 80% (or whatever you are comfortable with).

If you are not running a custom ROM or if your ROM doesn't have option to hide NavBar, please use apps mentioned before.

Get your screens ready -

• Take a backup of current homescreens if you want and then remove everything (icons, widgets) from your homescreens and docks.
• Long press on your homescreen > tap "Wallpapers" > tap "Live Wallpapers" > tap "MultiPicture Live Wallpaper" > tap Settings...
• Tap the plus button next to "Add individual settings". You'll get to select screen number here. Select 1 and tap ok.
• Tap "Screen 1 settings" > Picture source > Single Picture. Browse to the location where you had saved the wallpapers and select "AndiOS7-Wall-1.jpg".
• Similarly add "Screen 2 settings" and apply AndiOS7-Wall-2 to it, add "Screen 3 settings" and apply AndiOS7-Wall-3 to it, add "Screen 4 settings" and apply AndiOS7-Wall-4 to it.
• When all 4 are set like this, tap back to reach the screen where you had tapped "Settings...". Tap "Set Wallpaper". All 4 screens will now have required wallpapers.

Install the AndiOS7 UCCW theme pack -

• Download and install the theme pack.
• Installing this won't create an icon in your app drawer. This simply adds a bunch of uccw skins, which will be accessible to you as mentioned below.

Setup Screen 1 -

• Place a UCCW widget of 4x1 size at the top of the first screen. You can do so by dragging the uccw widget from app drawer or by long pressing homescreen to pull up widget menu and tapping UCCW.
• This will open the skins list. Skins downloaded from play store will show up ONLY HERE.
• Tap on "AndiOS7-Header-1" skin and it'll be applied to the widget.
• Place a UCCW widget of 4x3 size below that and apply "AndiOS7-DateWeather" skin to it.
• Place a UCCW widget of 4x1 size below that and apply "AndiOS7-Calendar" skin to it.
• Place a "Transparent calendar widget" widget below that. It's 3x1 size by default. Long press and drag it to the right side of the screen.
• Screen 1 should use Dock page 1. Since all your dock pages are currently empty, you don't have to do anything to your dock here.
• Screen 1 is now done.

Setup Screen 2 -

• Place a UCCW widget of 4x1 size at the top of this screen too and apply "AndiOS7-Header-2" skin to it.
• Apply the "iOs/iPhone 7 theme" OR "ios7 HD theme" iconpack through your launcher's theme manager ONLY. DON'T OPEN THE THEME APP ITSELF.
  
  • Go launcher -> Go to home screen > tap menu > themes > Installed > iOs 7 > Apply. (If this changes the wallpapers, re-apply them as before)
  • Nova launcher -> Nova settings > "look and feel" > "Icon theme" > "iOs 7
  • Apex launcher -> Apex settings > "theme settings" > "iOs 7". Make sure only "icon pack" is checked. Tap apply.
• Drag icons from your app drawer to this screen.
• Swipe to dock page 2. Place 4 app icons here. You can use the same apps as shown in the screenshot above
• All icons on homescreen and dock might not change to this iOS look. Watch the video starting from 10:53 to see how to handle that.
• Screen 2 is now done.

Setup Screen 3 -

• Place a UCCW widget of 4x1 size at the top of this screen too and apply "AndiOS7-Header-3" skin to it.
  
• Place a UCCW widget of 4x2 size below that and apply "AndiOS7-Shortcuts" skin to it.
  
• Place a PowerAmp widget of 4x2 size below that. From the dropdown list at the top, select "Minimalistic 1". Then at the bottom half, swipe from right to left to reach "OTHER" tab, tap "Icons" button to select color and pick a dark blue color. (If you are not sure how to pick color, I will make a video soon).
  
• Drag the Opacity slider to the right end (i.e. 100%), Tap OK > Done.
  
• Place a UCCW widget of 4x1 size below the PowerAmp widget and apply "AndiOS7-Bar" skin to it.
  
• Swipe to dock page 3. Place 4 app icons here. The zip I'll mail you has these 4 icons - Torch, Browser, Calculator, Camera. So, you can place corresponding apps here. If you want some other app, mention that in your mail and I'll see if I can make icons for those.
  
• You'll need to replace default icons of these 4 apps with the blue icons in the zip. Here's how to do it -
  
  • Long-press the icon and tap 'Edit'.
  • On the 'Edit Shortcut' pop-up, tap the icon.
  • Nova 2.1 & higher users - swipe to the leftmost page (Tab name - Gallery). Apex launcher users - tap 'Select picture'.
  • Tap on your file browser here and browse to the location where you had saved the icons from the zip. Tap on the relevant icon.
  • Nova 2.1 & higher users - On "Crop image" window, crop the image appropriately. Default should be fine in most cases. Apex users won't need / get this step.
  • You'll be back on the 'Edit Shortcut' pop-up. Apex users tap OK here. Nova users tap the checkmark at the top left corner.
    Screen 3 is now done.

Setup Screen 4 -

• Place a UCCW widget of 4x3 size at the top of this screen and apply "AndiOS7-Weather-Top" skin to it.
• Place another UCCW widget of 4x3 size below that and apply "AndiOS7-Weather-Bottom" skin to it.
• Screen 4 should use Dock page 4. Swipe to dock page 4. It should be left empty.
• Screen 4 is now done.

Setup Lockscreen -

• Launch WidgetLocker Lockscreen from your app drawer. Remove existing widgets and unlock sliders from the WL screen.
• Tap the settings icon at the top right and then make following settings -
• WidgetLocker Enabled - Checked.
• Go to "Buttons & Inputs" and enable "Allow Interactions".
• Go to "Look & Feel" and enable "Alternative Wallpaper". Tap "Select wallpaper", tap your file browser and browse to the location where you had saved the wallpapers and select "AndiOS7-Wall-Lock.jpg". Select the entire image while cropping.
• Set Background tint to 0. Tap layout and set it to 6x4. Drag the anchor here to the bottom of the example screen shown. Save.
• Hide Notification bar - enabled.

• Now go back to WidgetLocker main window. Long press, tap widgets, tap uccw and place a UCCW widget of 4x3 size at the top of this screen and apply "AndiOS7-Clock" skin to it.
• Long press, tap "Custom Slider", tap the "Theme" dropdown and select AndiOS7 from there. Tap "Done" at the top left corner.
  Lockscreen is now done.

If you are not using WidgetLocker but you are on a Jelly Bean 4.2.2 device, you can still place the clock widget on your lockscreen. This is not ideal, but here it is -

• Lock your phone and then press the power button to reach the lockscreen.
• Without unlocking it, swipe from the left edge of the phone to right. Keep doing this till you see a big + button. Tap it.
• Tap UCCW 4x3. Tap on "AndiOS7-Clock". The clock will be placed at the center of the page. You can leave this page here. Next time you reach lockscreen, you can swipe to this page to see this clock. OR..
• Long press this page and drag it to the extreme right side. The clock will be place towards the top half but will be shrunk. And stock android notification bar will still be visible.

Editing / fine tuning
At this point, all screen look like iOS7 screens. But to make them work fully, you might need to edit apps assigned to uccw widgets' hotspots.

How to edit hotspots in uccw-

• After applying the skin as mentioned above, launch UCCW app from app drawer. Tap Menu, tap "hotspot mode" and tap 'OFF'. UCCW will exit.
• Now tap anywhere on the uccw widget. It'll open in uccw edit window.
• Scroll through the components in the bottom half of the screen. You should see "Hotspot 1", "Hotspot 2" etc. depending on how many hotspots that particular skin has.
• Tap on them, tap the relevant hotspot type and then tap whatever you want to assign to that hotspot.
• You can change color, format etc too (optional) in this window.
• When done, simply tap back to exit uccw and your changes will be applied to the skin.
• Tap next skin to open it in uccw window and make similar changes there.
• When all done, tap Menu, tap "hotspot mode" and tap 'ON'. UCCW will exit. And now when you tap on widgets, they'll do the task assigned to them.

Troubleshooting / Tips

• If the "Install" step fails; go to Android settings > Security and make sure "Unknown sources" is enabled. This is required because Jelly bean encryption had broken theme apps download from play store. This is the workaround fix for that. Google "Jellybean encryption issue" to find out more.
• To change temperature unit between Celsius and Fahrenheit -> Launch UCCW app itself. Tap Menu, tap settings. Here, if "Celsius" is marked, temperature will display in Celsius. If unmarked, Fahrenheit.
• If weather info is not displayed/updated, Launch UCCW app itself. Tap Menu, tap settings. Tap "Weather provider" and make sure OpenWeatherMap is selected. Tap Location and make sure "Auto location" is selected.
• If you are loosing too much battery, launch uccw, tap menu > settings > Update interval. Set it to some higher value (2 hour / 3 hour etc instead of 30 minutes). And make sure "Force widget update" is unchecked.
