• TWRP_v2.8.1.0_S939 ↦ custom recovery files, can be use with mobile uncle application also. 
• USB VCom driver ↦ this driver must be install on you computer first before can be use.
• SP Flash Tool v3.1328 ↦ tool that can be use to install custom recovery file to your device, recommended using this version.

Before can start to follow the guide, first you must install USB Vcom driver to your computer without this driver flash tool will not recognize your device when it attach to the computer, to install just follow below instruction :

• turn off your device and remove the battery, If you device using non removable make sure that your device is completely turn off
• open device manager on your computer
• connect your device using USB cable
• there will be MTK65xx Preloader Devices show on your device manager, PORT section for 5 second or less and then disappear
• disconnect and connect your device again, right click on MTK65xx Preloader Devices before it disappear, select Update Driver Software 
• point it USB VCOM extracted folder, and install the driver from there.
• disconnect and connect your device again, there will be Mediatek PreLoader USB VCOM Port on your device manager PORT section.

Lenovo S939 installing custom recovery TWRP v2.8.1.0 with Android 5.0 UI

1. When you reach this step i assume that you already successful installing USB VCom driver on your computer. Download all required files above and extract on the same folder. 
2. Open flash tool extracted folder and run flash_tool.exe, if you are using windows 7 or later please run it using administrator privileges to avoid any permission error.
3. On the flash tool, check DA DL All with Checksum and the click Scatter-Loading button browse it to custom recovery extracted folder and then select MT6592_Android_scatter.txt, click open. 
4. It will automatically load recovery.img to flash tool
   


5. Now, you just need to press Download button on flash tool, it will trigger warning that said not all images correctly loaded. Just press Yes button and flash tool will become standby waiting connection with your device. (with all button disable, only stop button enable)
6. Turn off your device, remove the battery or if your device use non removable battery just make sure that it completely turn off (wait for 2-3 minutes after power off it). Connect your device to flash tool, if USB VCOM driver is completely install the flash tool will recognize your device and begin to flash the custom recovery, it will take 10-15 second to finish and will show GREEN CIRCLE in the middle of flash tool
   
7. Done

PS :

If you got error code 8038 after connect Lenovo SS939 to computer, then you must use mobile uncle to install this recovery. The error mean your partition table is not same with the recovery. (PMT Changed, must be downloaded)

1. If you manage to get to this step, i am assume you already success install china firmware version with custom recovery on your Lenovo S920, the rest of this step is very easy to follow. 
2. Download the Vibe UI 2.0 files and move or copy to your external SD Card, better copy it to the root of your external SD Card don't inside the folder.
3. Turn off your device and boot to recovery mode, press and hold Power button + Volume Up + Volume Down button release it until you can see TWRP main menu.

1. First thing to do is install USB Vcom driver on your computer, without this driver installed on your computer flash tool will not recognize your device and progress bar will stay at 0%, for installing USB Vcom driver please refer to this below :


• turn off your device and remove the battery, If you device using non removable make sure that your device is completely turn off wait like 20 seconds after power off the device
• open device manager on your computer
• connect your device using USB cable
• there will be MTK65xx Preloader Devices show on your device manager, PORT section for 5 second or less and then disappear
• disconnect and connect your device again, right click on MTK65xx Preloader Devices before it disappear, select Update Driver Software

1. Download all required files and place it on one folder, make sure you downloaded the right version depend on your firmware. Make sure USB VCOM driver installed completely before continued to next step.
2. Extract SP Flash Tool v5.1352 and CTRv2.4_S920_ROW_recovery (i am assuming you use ROW version firmware), on the same folder. Go to Flash Tool extracted folder and run Flash_Tool.exe, if you are running windows 7 please run it using administrator privilege. Confirm OK if you ask about the scatter does not exist on the first run.
3. On the Flash_Tool click on Options ↦ Option ↦ Download ↦ make sure DA DL ALL with Checksum already checked, close the Option dialog to back to Flash Tool.
   


4. Back to Flash_Tool again click Scatter-Loading button point it to CTRv2.4_S920_ROW_recovery extracted folder and select MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt, this action will make recovery.img automatically loaded on the Flash Tool.
   


5. Leave Download Only option and then click Download button or hit CTRL+D, wait for 2-3 seconds then turn off your device and remove the battery. Connect your device to computer using USB cable.

2. Move or copy King User v3.4 to your external SD Card.
3. Extract CWM for Android KitKat and SP FLash Tool 3.1324 on the same folder. go to SP FLash Tool 3.1324 extracted folder and run Flash_Tool.exe, on the Flash Tool check DA DL All with Checksum option this is important option that must not forgotten. Click on Scatter-Loading button and point it to CWM for Android KitKat extracted folder and select MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt, the recovery.img will be automatically load with check box already checked.
   


4. When everything already set up, now press Download button or hit F9, this will trigger warning that warm all not images completely load, confirm it with press Yes button
   


5. Turn off your device and remove the battery, wait 5 second then connect your device to your computer. SP Flash Tool will begin recognize your device and start the flashing process, The process will take only 5-10 seconds and when you see Green Circle in the middle of Flash Tool that mean you can disconnect your device. 
   


6. Done, now custom recovery already installed on your device. Disconnect your device and turn on with press and hold Power Button + Volume Up + Volume Down and release until you can see CWM main menu.
7. on CWM main menu go to Install Zip from SD Card ↦ Choose Zip from SD Card ↦ point it to King User v3.4.zip

3. Back to SP Flash Tool, now click Scatter-Loading and point it to target_bin/MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt on locate on S920_ROW_S213_140714 extracted folder, this will automatically load all necessary files to SP Flash Tool. 
   


4. Change Download only option on SP Flash Tool to Firmware Upgrade mode, Finish configure all now press Download button or hit CTRL+D, wait SP Flash Tool to initialize and become to stand by mode.
   


5. Turn off your device and remove the battery, wait 5 second then connect your device to your computer. SP Flash Tool will begin recognize your device and start the flashing process, this process mark by RED, PURPLE, and YELLOW bar on the bottom SP Flash Tool. When you see GREEN CIRCLE on the middle of SP Flash Tool, this mean flashing process already finish and you can disconnect your device.
   


6. Done, you have successful upgrade your Lenovo S920 to Android KitKat, confirm it with go to System Setting ↦ About Phone look at Build Number make sure the version is same with the downloaded.

Lenovo S920 Upgrade Android Kit Kat 4.4.2 with Gapps + Root - This guide is old issued, Lenovo S920 received Vibe UI v1.5 update about 2 month ago and still update until now. This guide is revision from my old post Upgrade Lenovo S920 Android Kit Kat 4.4.2 Vibe UI. Today i will posting the new guide on how to upgrade Lenovo S920 Android Kit Kat 4.4.2 with Gapps + Root, This is an official update from china so it only contains 2 languages CN and EN, and also has a lot chinese applications, but using this guide will will try to ROOT it, install Gapps (Google Apps) and remove this chinesse applications. Vibe UI v1.5 also release an OTA updates but when you follow this guide and change the system then OTA updates will not work anymore, So please consider it.

Downloads :

• S920_S141_130614 ↦ Lenovo S920 CN firmware version S141. (Required to Login)
• CWM Recovery v6.0.3.4 ↦ Chinesse custom recovery file, need this to install Vibe UI ROM.
• MT65XX Preloader Vcom Driver
• Vibe UI Cleaner ↦ this use to clean all chinese applications on Vibe UI ROM, download it if you wanna remove all chinese applications
• KingUser v3.3.6
• Gapps Minimal for 4.4.2
• VIBEUI_V1.5_1427_ST_S920 ↦ Stable version Vibe UI for Lenovo S920. (Required to Login)

Preparations :

• Backup your current ROM, Use MTK Droid Tools for full backup your ROM. How to Make Full Backup For Mediatek Device
• Backup your IMEI using MobilUncle MTK Tool.
• Backup all your files, this guide will erase all your files save on your device.
• If you never flashing your device, then please install MT65XX Preloader Vcom Driver to your computer first. Turn off your device and remove battery, connect your device to your computer. When your computer ask for a driver please point it to MT65XX Preloader Vcom Driver extracted folder. After finish installation process please look at My Computer ↦ Manage ↦ Device Manager ↦ COM (Port & LPT).
  
  
  After see like in the picture above, please disconnect your device. Move VIBEUI_V1.5_1427_ST_S920, Gapps Minimal for 4.4.2, Vibe UI Cleaner and KingUser v3.3.6 to your sd card, for easy organized please place in one folder. 

Lenovo S920 Upgrade Android Kit Kat 4.4.2 with Gapps + Root

1. Installation Official Chinese ROM Lenovo S920
   • Extract S920_S141_130614, Then extract again another 2 folder target_bin.7z and S920????_20130312(v3.1304.0.119) ↦ this is a SP Flash Tool folder, if you found cannot run the Flash Tool.exe then download SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1304.0
   • Open SP Flash Tool folder, find Flash Tool and run it, if you using windows 7 try to run using administrator privileges. Please check DA DL All with Check Sum this is an important option please don't forget it or you will finish with error on boot. Now click Scatter-Loading button to load the S920_S141_130614/target_bin/MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc.txt. It will load the rest needed files to flashing Lenovo S920. Then press Download button or hit F9, SP Flash Tool will begin do initializing process, wait until finish and getting stand by.
     
   
   
   • After finish, Please turn off your device remove the battery, SIM card, and SD Card. Connect your device using USB cable, when MT65XX Preloader Vcom Driver installation finish with successful, SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1304.0 will begin recognize your device and start the flashing process. This process will take like about 8-9 minutes, when flashing process already finish it will characterized by GREEN CIRCLE in the middle of SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1304.0.
     
   
   
   • Now you can disconnect your device, but please don't turn it on.


2. Installing Custom Recovery CWM v6.0.3.4
   • Extract CWM Recovery v6.0.3.4, it will contains 2 files, MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc and recovery.img. Actually you can also flash this recovery.img file using MobileUncle MTK Tool but it need ROOTED device, so we use SP Flash Tool method.
   • Open SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1304.0 again, check DA DL All with Check Sum please don't forget about this option. Click on Scatter-Loading button and point it to CWM Recovery v6.0.3.4/MT6589_Android_scatter_emmc this will load recovery.img also. Now click Download button or press F9, confirm all warning and begin to recovery update process.
     
   
   
   • Connect your device again, Same like the last on turn off, remove battery, remove SIM card, and remove SD card. SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1304.0 will begin the recovery update flashing process, this process will just only take time about 1-2 minutes. Same like the last when it finish it will show GREEN CIRCLE in the middle of SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1304.0
   • Now you can disconnect your device, Put back the battery, SIM card, and SD card. But again please don't turn on your device.


3. Installing Vibe UI v1.5_1427
   • Go to recovery mode, press and hold Power Button + Volume Up + Volume Down until your device show recovery mode.
   • On recovery mode, Select Install zip from sdcard ↦ Choose zip from sdcard ↦ point to VIBEUI_V1.5_1427_ST_S920. CWM v6.0.3.4 will begin to update your device to Vibe UI v1.5_1427 this process will take time 2-3 minutes to finish.
   • When finish back to CWM v6.0.3.4 main menu and Select Install zip from sdcard ↦ Choose zip from sdcard ↦ point to Vibe UI Cleaner this process will remove chinese applications for Vibe UI v1.5_1427
   • Back to CWM v6.0.3.4 main menu and select Reboot System Now. When there is an option to Install SuperSu please select Don't Install your device will reboot and enter to Home Screen.
   • On this step your are already successful Update Your Lenovo S920 to Android Kit Kat 4.4.2 Vibe UI v1.5_1427. Try to change the language setting to english, and enable the USB Debugging. you can dial ####537999# this will open Developer Settings.


4. Installing Google Applications and Rooting
   • Go to recovery mode, press and hold Power Button + Volume Up + Volume Down until your device show recovery mode.
   • Select Install zip from sdcard ↦ Choose zip from sdcard ↦ point to Gapps Minimal for 4.4.2. Finish install google applications back to CWM v6.0.3.4 main menu
   • Select Install zip from sdcard ↦ Choose zip from sdcard ↦ point to KingUser v3.3.6
   • Back to main menu dan select Reboot System Now


5. Installing Modem_V23 - If any problem with your signal, please do this step
   • Go to recovery mode, press and hold Power Button + Volume Up + Volume Down until your device show recovery mode.
   • Select Install zip from sdcard ↦ Choose zip from sdcard ↦ point to vibeui_modem_v23
   • Back to main menu and select Reboot System Now


6. Finish - Now your Lenovo S920 already update with Vibe UI v1.5_1427 with Gapps and already ROOTED.

1. Move Framaroot v1.7.0 to your sd card, Please enable Unknown Sources option from System Settings ↦ Security ↦ Unknown Source, If you not enable this option than the security will prevents any installation using apk file.
2. Install Framaroot v1.7.0 to you device, confirm all warning and please continued to install. This application not dangerous so please don't be afraid.
   


3. When finish the installation, now it time to rooting your device. Open Framaroot v1.7.0, Select Install SuperSu on Select an action to execute after root, This options has 2 choice you can choose to use SuperSu or SuperUser as root applications it all up to you to choose. Then please click on Boromir
   


4. Click OK on confirmation pop up and your device will  automatically reboot.

How to Swap Memory for Lenovo S920 - One of the famous tip and trick for Lenovo S920 users is to swap sd card become internal memory on Lenovo S920, this tricks commonly used by peoples who run out their internal memory because they need to install a very large data games. In Lenovo S920 4 GB there only 2,5 GB space to be used for internal memory and in this internal memory stored all data for games, applications, pictures, etc with just 2,5 GB free space i think it very small for games addict. • ROOTED device, Use Framaroot v1.91 to root your Lenovo S920
• Class 10 Sd Card, If you use lower than 8 for Sd Card class then you will feel lag when you operate your device. So i very recommend it for used class 10 for better performace.
• ROW or CN ROM, for Vibe UI v1.5 I don't know it will work or not but you can try to follow this guide, when it not suitable than just stop it.
• This trick better be use on the first you begin to boot your phone, so there is no user data and user applications install on both internal memory or sd card.

How to Swap Memory for Lenovo S920

1. I like to install and used Root Explorer v2.20, but if you accustomed to using any other explorer than it ok as long as they can access on ROOT directory.
2. Download and install Root Explorer v2.20 to your device, after success open it. Your root applications (SuperSu or SuperUser) will ask for permission to use for this application please just Grant / Allow it.
   


3. On Root Explorer v2.20, navigate to /system/etc and change the mount to R/W
   


4. Find file with name vold.fstab, this is the file that need to be edited. For your save please backup / copy this original file to sd card. Select file vold.fstab and click options button on the Root Explorer v2.20, then select Open in Text Editor.
   


5. Then look for this text
   
   dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard emmc@fat /devices/platform/goldfish_mmc.0 /devices/platform/mtk-sd.0/mmc_host
   
   dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard2 auto /devices/platform/goldfish_mmc.1 /devices/platform/mtk-sd.1/mmc_host


6. And replace for this code below
   
   dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard2 emmc@fat /devices/platform/goldfish_mmc.0 /devices/platform/mtk-sd.0/mmc_host
   
   dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/goldfish_mmc.1 /devices/platform/mtk-sd.1/mmc_host


7. If you can see these 2 codes is same only the bold that need to be changes, Then Save it if need to replace than confirm it by click Yes
8. Now cross your finger and reboot your device, Wait until it can boot perfectly if you device can boot then your tricks is work but if not then check every step you have already done and try repeat it careful or you can cancel to follow this guide by restore the vold.fstab file to original.
